Spring 2017 - Welcome Back!

Hello Band!!

Welcome back, and get ready to go!

   

1.)     Horns:  Yes, we are playing Wednesday!  Yes, you must bring your horn Wednesday! No, we will not be nice if you forget your horn on Wednesday!

2.)    FIRST FRIDAY BREAKFAST: This is a campus tradition, and January is the band’s turn.  If you do not know what this is, it is a long time tradition in which the band provides breakfast to all Bellaire faculty/staff.  All seventh period and percussion ensemble members are REQUIRED to help.  ALL members must make donations.  A sheet for sign-ups will be passed out/posted on Wednesday. All items have to be in Thursday evening unless they are perishable.  Perishable items will have to be in by 6:45 am on Friday morning.

Schedule: 

Band Room Open at 6AM

6:00 AM               Coffee on in MPR - Boosters

6:15 AM               Members report and set up.

6:30 AM               Band Meeting in MPR

7:00 AM               Teachers arrive

7:30 AM               All but officers go to class.

7:40 AM               Band Officers conduct the breakdown / clean up

3.)     All-Region Concert and Clinic:  Jan 13/14 at Mayde Creek H.S.

This is for both 9^th grade all-region, and Varsity all-region. More info (schedule and maps) to come.

4.)    All-City Band: is Jan 27 & 28 at Waltrip H.S. More info (schedule and maps) to come.

5.)    UIL Solo and Ensemble: Entry Deadline is: Jan 13th. Date of contest: Feb 18, at Bellaire. All members will be working this event. No exceptions. We will work out details after sign-ups and scheduling is received.  To do a solo or ensemble:

·         Turn in form (ON WEBSITE under “Forms”!) with money (Solos: $15; Ensembles: $20) to Mr. Dudney.

·         You must have an original score. If doing the solo provided by the school, we have the score.

·         If you are not doing the school solo, you must provide your own piano player.  It is YOUR responsibility to get the piano player, not the director.

·         You must have private lesson teacher approval to do a grade 1 solo.

·         All ensembles follow the same procedure, and only require director approval.

·         If you don’t have the completed form or money, you cannot sign up!

6.)    Lasagna Dinner: More info to come!

Color Guard Auditions and Cold Front Coming

As you may know, a major cold system is coming to Houston on Monday.  Temperatures in the teens are expected.  Weather like this at best is uncomfortable, but could bring much worse.   Given all of this, I am moving auditions to this Saturday at 6pm.    If this causes an issue, email me at wwaltem1@houstonisd.org.  We will work with individuals with verifiable issues.

Hello All,

Next week will have lots of fun.  A couple organization have made changes to their calendars, which affects us.   If you use this sheet, we will all get through it.

Monday (Dec 5^th)       1.) Special Ops set up stage during 1^st period.

2.) Seventh period band with “fill-ins from 5^th period” and percussion on stage 330 – 500

3.) All Region Flutes, Clarinets and Trumpets have Phase 1 auditions at CINCO RANCH H.S.  Please note that the location is CINCO RANCH H.S.  Start time is 6pm

Tuesday (Dec 6^th)       Rehearsal for all Groups 330 – 530.  Concert will begin at 6:30, and conclude by 7:30 if all goes well.

Wednesday and Thursday (Dec 7&8)      Relax (no jazz band)

Friday (Dec 9)             All Region Phase 1 for Alto Sax, F Horn, Trombone, Tuba, and Percussion.  Location is Cinco Ranch.  Start time is 6pm

Saturday (Dec10)         1.)   All Region Phase 2 at Cinco Ranch   9am start.

                                     2.)   9^th Grade All Region - at Cinco Ranch   1:00 PM Start

Sunday                                 Do Nothing, It is Sunday

Friday's Uniform Turn In Info

• Friday After School   - No Exceptions
• You must turn in your black bag, Uniform, and Shoes.
• You must turn in your uniform in a dry cleaning bag with receipt dated this week. No receipt, means no turn in.
• If you do not complete turn in this Friday, you will receive a ten dollar penalty.  This must be done this Friday

When your event is over, you are to wait in the cafeteria.   If your parent picks you up when your audition is done, I must have all paperwork before we leave for the event.  No exceptions will be made to this.

We are playing Cypress-Ranch in our first round of playoffs (11/11)!

DRILL TEAM TUNE:  "Love Runs Out"

FOR HALF TIME:  We will march onto the field in the opening set of our band show (just like last week), and play "Land of 1000 Dances." Then march to the front, then off the field toward the direction of where we are seated.
